About Puerto Vallarta

Situated on the Pacific Ocean’s Bay of Banderas Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico’s most sophisticated destinations. Bordered by golden beaches with its lush palm-covered Sierra Madre Mountains, it’s the perfect spot to relax and recharge. In Puerto Vallarta you can enjoy the exquisite regional cuisine of Jalisco on the terraces of open-air restaurants as you take in the incredible sunsets each evening across the bay.

Enjoy the simple pleasures of sun and sand or indulge in more decadent treats: world-class spas, high-end restaurants or boutique shopping. There’s no shortage of active pursuits either: world class golf courses, swimming with the dolphins, diving with manta rays, horseback riding or gliding from treetop to treetop on an exhilarating rain forest canopy tour.

Puerto Vallarta lies along Banderas Bay, the second largest bay in the Western Hemisphere. It is located 352 kilometers (219 miles) from Guadalajara, the state capital of Jalisco and it is nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountain range. The region has many forests, rivers and waterfalls with an average temperature of 27°C (80°F).

Of its many attractions, Playa Mismaloya – which gained fame from the film “The Night of the Iguana” – is a popular celebrity hangout. The impressive rock formations of Los Arcos emerge from the bay’s crystalline waters which are great for diving and discovering incredible underwater mountains and steeps. The city hall has murals painted by Manuel Lepe, and the Malecon (sea wall) is adorned with romantic bronze sculptures. Downtown streets offer shops and galleries that sell local paintings and sculptures. The city known for its top-notch services also has golf courses, boutiques and a marina.

Sport fishing is just one of many activities you can do during your stay in Puerto Vallarta.  Each year during the month of November, the International Sailfish Fishing Tournament takes place. Other activities available in this region are eco-tourism, extreme sports, snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, boating, golfing and nightlife.

Puerto Vallarta Must-Sees

Los Arcos National Marine Park
Between Gemelas Beach and Mismaloya Beach lies an incredible underwater marine park where you will find colorful coral reefs, hidden caves and fascinating arc-shaped rock formations. View the breathtaking landscape by boat or snorkel or scuba dive your way through the park – keep an eye out for octopus, eagle rays and lobster.

The Marieta Islands
Take a 30-minute boat ride from the marina to these small, uninhabited islands, originally formed by volcanic activity. Recognized as a national park the area is protected from fishing, hunting or any human activity, so the marine ecosystem in exceptionally developed: you can spot manta rays, dolphins, turtles, humpback whales, rare birds and more.

Vallarta Botanical Gardens
Just 30 minutes south of Old Town Puerto Vallarta are the Vallarta Botanical Gardens featuring 20 acres of awe-inspiring wildlife. You could spend hours following the winding paths past tropical fruit trees, ferns, palms, orchids and butterflies. Bring a swimsuit and a towel – you’ll want to take a refreshing dip in the spring-fed river.
