Another Big Spike at the Puerto Vallarta Airport in June
In June, the number of commercial flight passengers that arrived at the Puerto Vallarta International Airport was 36.3 percent higher than in the same month of 2019, making it the second consecutive ‘low season’ month to beat pre-pandemic passenger numbers. (In May 2022, passenger traffic was up 35% over the same period of 2019.)
In the first half of the year, the Vallarta air terminal registered an 11.55% increase in passengers compared to 2019, based mainly on the national market, which improved 43.2 percent compared to that year. Though the international market still showed a decrease of 1.8%, this semester the airport welcomed 3,125,300 passengers, a new record that exceeds the figures achieved in 2019 by more than 323,000 visitors.
In the month of June 2022, the 12 Mexican airports of the GAP registered an increase in total passenger traffic of 13.4%, compared to the same month of 2019. The airports of Puerto Vallarta, Tijuana and Los Cabos presented growth of 36.3%, 32.3% and 24.0% respectively, compared to June 2019.
The Vallarta airport received 504,600 passengers, while in the same month of 2019 there were 370,100. The difference compared to last year was 32.6%, when there were 380,500.
In June, 230,900 passengers arrived on domestic flights, 35.3% more than the same month of 2019, when there were 170,700, for a total of 1,190,700 so far this year. This market is the one that shows the greatest rebound.
In addition, 273,700 passengers arrived on international flights, 37.2 percent more than in June 2019, when there were 199,400. In this case they add up to 1,934,600 so far this year, still down 1.8% compared to 2019, although recent figures for this market are also on the rise.
The volume of seats offered during June 2022 increased 23.7%, compared to June 2021. The load factor went from 77.6% in June 2021 to 81.6% in June 2022.
