Puerto Vallarta to Host U20 Beach Volleyball Championship
Are you ready for some volleyball? The 2021 Beach Volleyball Youth Championship is set to be held from May 28th to 30th on Holi Beach in the Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone, where more than 110 teams from around the country will compete in the Under 15, Under 17, and Under 20 categories.
The details of this sporting event were announced at a press conference, in which the director of Municipal Tourism, Ramon Gonzalez Lomeli, said that since the first beach volleyball tournament to ever be held in Mexico was played in Puerto Vallarta in 1989, there’s no better place to hold this important event.
And, since beach volleyball is closely linked to the history of the city, there’s no better time to host it than during Vallarta’s 103rd-anniversary celebrations.
Tournament organizer Laura Almaral thanked the city and sponsors for the support that makes possible this sporting event, which was originally the Mexican Open, but converted into a Youth Championship.
“It is historical, it is the first time that a Youth Championship for all categories has been brought to Vallarta. The best players from 18 states in Mexico have already been confirmed… all of them are in the U20 categories, and from here they will advance to the National Games to be held in June,” she explained.
A stadium and 5 courts will be set up on Holi Beach, where all the sanitary measures established by the Ministry of Health will be followed. Entry will be free during the three days of the competition.
On Friday, May 28, there will be a qualification so that the teams that are not already placed in each category, can obtain one of the 4 remaining places, so that each category in the female and male categories, is played with 12 teams under a system of groups of all against all, and later, a crossover system. On Saturday, the competitions will start at 9 in the morning and the finals will be played on Sunday.
On behalf of CODE Jalisco, Gustavo Fong Patino, Director of Municipal Sports, indicated that this “new normal” calls for promoting sport as a tool for social, economic reactivation and, in the case of Vallarta, tourism. He also added that the capacity of attendees will be determined by the Board of Health prior to the competition, in accordance with the evaluation of health in the state.
