Mexico Adds 1.5 Million New Seats on Direct Flights
Earlier this month the Mexico Tourism Board announced as connectivity continues to grow at an impressive rate with Mexico’s global air connectivity, 1.5 million seats will be on direct flights to destinations this year.
Mexico is the world’s sixth most visited country and the growth will allow keeping up with the strong demand. During the first quarter of 2018, a record-breaking 10.6 million tourists compared to the same period last year represented more than a 12% increase.
International visitors traveled to Mexico in 2017 by air represented nearly half of the 39.3 million visitors.
Enrique del la Madrid, Secretary of Tourism said: “the increasing air connectivity is a critical component of Mexico’s tourism growth strategy”. Visitors from all corners of the globe will be accessing all that Mexico offers with the expansion of air routes. It will also appeal to the business sector in Mexico. Mexico is a winning country in the airline industry and the demand for access to its beautiful beaches, vibrant city life, and quaint charming towns is a win-win for everyone.
There will be sixteen new direct routes in Mexico which will also contribute to the seat growth.
Over the course of 2017, Mexico added 2.6 million seats to reach 28 million overall.
Aimed to increase the number of tourists arriving from China, Japan, South Korea, the Middle East and India will benefit from the destination’s connectivity strategy. New routes will include Hainan Airlines’ the first service ever from Beijing to Mexico City via Tijuana and Emirates Airlines’ service between Dubai and Mexico City via Barcelona.
New air routes included in North America are: Boston to Mexico City, Chicago to Guadalajara, New York to Mexico City, Philadelphia to Mexico City, Sacramento to Los Cabos, San Diego to Puerto Vallarta, San Francisco to Cancun, San Jose to Los Cabos and Vancouver to Mexico City.
