Mexico Submits Alfonso Cuarón’s ‘Roma’ for 2019 Oscar
Once again, Oscar winner Alfonso Cuaron Roma from Netflix has been selected by Mexico as the official submission for the Foreign Language Film Oscar.
Roma has been on fire collecting the Golden Lion at Venice after its launch in the fall festival space. To quality, in August Cuaron’s memoir to his homeland played in a cinema in Mexico City. The director prefers a format as a theatrical release and Netflix is working on a release in Dolby Atmos. The qualifying theatrical run will begin in selected cities on December 14th.
It would come as no surprise to see the same Roma receive the love throughout all Oscar categories outside of foreign language like Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon.
His memories of growing up in Mexico City were produced, written, directed and shot in black and white by Cuaron.
Cuaron was the first Mexico-born filmmaker to win the Oscar in 2014 in the directing category for his sci-fi opus, Gravity.
