Puerto Vallarta Will Soon Have a New Sister City
I’m delighted to announce that on September 29, 2018, San Francisco, CA is officially a new Sister City to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
The Sister City Program dedicates friendship and understanding between people from different cities around the world and was initiated in 1956 by United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Having more applications, like trade agreements and business partnerships,
the program will celebrate people of different cultures and builds partnerships that would lessen the chance of new conflicts by forming these relationships.
The Sister Cities are also known as the “Twin Towns” will promote Puerto Vallarta tourism and the LGBT segment and regional development of the technology industry.
Enrique Ramos Flores the Jalisco Secretary of Tourism along with representatives from both cities will attend a Proclamation Ceremony in Puerto Vallarta. Also in attendance will be representatives from the National Chamber of the Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technologies Industry (Caniete) invited to possible discuss a project with companies from Silicon Valley
The process of selecting the eleven people that will make up the San Francisco-Puerto Vallarta Sister City committee was subject to a ruling and the approval of the council, said Susana Rodriguez, the chairwoman of the Puerto Vallarta City Council Tourism Committee.
The theme for the Sister City Committee given that both cities stand out for their acceptance and respect of this social and tourist segment, the guiding theme will be on focusing on the inclusion and human rights of the LGBT community.
With one or two direct flights a week throughout the year, San Francisco is one of the main tourism markets for Puerto Vallarta. The most developed technology hub in the United States and home of Silicon Valley this relationship will definitely skeet to expand the tourist flow while raising the destination’s second most important industry – innovation and technology.
This partnership can be mutually advantageous since the State of Jalisco over the last three decades has emerged as a center for research and development in highly specialized technologies.
Javier Aranda Pedrero, the Director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust feels this contact between representatives of both destinations can strengthen tourism, cultural and business exchanges as this type of partnership is relevant to strengthening the promotion of tourism to this destination in cities and regions.
This pairing with San Francisco could give Puerto Vallarta a new window for economic opportunities, which would be a great achievement as Jalisco is a forerunner in the technology industry, and we believe that it is very compatible with tourism.
